Because of their nature, literature compilations often are not acknowledged or cited, but our efforts to understand the biology and anatomy of S. crocodilurus were greatly facilitated by the invaluable compilation by Zhao and Zhao (1994). That source led us to many papers difficult to obtain in the United States, and our ability to acquire them was made possible by assistance from B. Bartholomew, J. Mead, D. Trombatore, and E.-m.
