Jean-Pierre Guilbault is a
micropaleontology consultant specializing on Quaternary foraminifera. He has
finished his M. Sc. at the Université de Montreal in 1975 with a memoir on
Ordovician calcareous algae and his Ph. D. at Aarhus Universitet in 1980 with a
thesis on Quaternary glacial foraminifera and ecostratigraphy. After a brief
stay at Bedford Institute of Oceanography in Halifax, he spent 4 years in the
oil industry in Calgary and then came back to his native Montreal where he since
acts as a consultant. His work has centered on the west coast of Canada,
predominantly on the glacial marine Quaternary, but also on Holocene marsh
environments because of the information they supply on paleoseismicity. More
recently, he got interested in modern sponge reefs of the British Columbia
continental shelf. Jean-Pierre has been doing some occasional work in other
regions of Canada and is now beginning to work on material from the coastal
plain of China with a group at the University of Nanjing.
