ndustry as a biostratigraphic consultant, specialising in Mesozoic and Tertiary of the North Sea, working both from the office and offshore. He has also been involved in industry-related fieldwork projects in the UK and Venezuela. He is currently consulting mainly on engineering geology in the London area. Through his career he has also been involved in research projects on Cretaceous and Paleogene stratigraphy, partly in collaboration with the British Geological Survey, Geological Survey of Belgium and Aarhus University, Denmark. These currently occupy most of his time. He has carried out extensive fieldwork in western Europe, USA, north Africa, Ukraine, Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan. His special interest is in all aspects of Early Eocene stratigraphy, but his published work has ranged from the Jurassic of Egypt to the Quaternary of the North Sea. Current collaborative projects include a synthesis of the Eocene of the London Basin, and the stratigraphy of the Theban necropolis (Luxor, Egypt) and Wadi Hitan (‘whale valley’, Fayum, Egypt).
