Dr Tim Heaton is Principal Scientific Officer at the Natural Environment
Research Council - Isotope Geosciences Laboratory, Keyworth, Nottingham. He
obtained a BSc in Earth Sciences from the University of Leeds and a PhD in
isotope geochemistry from the University of Edinburgh. Subsequently, he
conducted chemical and isotopic studies in the fields of hydrology,
palaeoclimatology, archaeology and pollution studies at the National Physical
Research Laboratories, Pretoria before moving to his present place of work in
1987. There his research interests have broadened further to include isotopic
applications in botany, limnology, glaciology and atmospheric chemistry. His
contribution to the Queen Scallop project has been specialist knowledge and
training in isotopic research.
