Harry J. Dowsett

Dr. Harry Dowsett is a research geologist at the U.S. Geological Survey in Reston, Virginia and an adjunct Professor of Geology at George Mason University in Fairfax, Virginia. He received a B.Sc. (1981) in Geology from Long Island University in New York. He has a M.Sc. (1984) in Geology from the George Washington University in Washington D.C. and received his Ph.D. in Geological Sciences from Brown University (Providence, Rhode Island) in 1988. Dr. Dowsett was a National Research Council post-doctoral associate at the USGS.

He is a marine micropaleontologist specializing in paleoclimatology, paleoceanography and biochronology utilizing planktonic foraminifers and calcareous nannofossils. He has conducted research on Cretaceous, Cenozoic and Holocene climates and serves as coordinator for the PRISM (Pliocene Research, Interpretation and Synoptic Mapping) Global Climate reconstruction. His current research interests include development and application of quantitative approaches to paleoclimatology based upon calcareous microfossils.
