Ray Gildner is currently in the middle of two-year position as Visiting Assistant Professor at IPFW. Previously, he taught formally at Union College (Schenectady, NY) and Cornell University and informally at the University of Maine, and served as the Educational Technology Manager at the Paleontological Research Institution (Ithaca, NY). In addition, he spent several years riding the crest of the dot-com boom as a Software Quality Assurance Consultant. He earned BS Geology and BS Geophysics degrees from the University of Minnesota, Institute of Technology and PhD in Paleontology from Cornell University.

Dr. Gildner prefers to anchor his research with field observations, but adapted to the period of academic job-hunting by shifting to quantitative and theoretical studies of ammonoids. As a graduate student, his dissertation research involved several years of paleontological and stratigraphic field work on Ordovician strata of the USA, and in his teaching he has led many and varied field trips. He looks forward to the stability of a more permanent position, where he can return to the reality of the field.
