PLAIN-LANGUAGE SUMMARY

We discuss fossil ungulates from Uganda and Pakistan. The fossils were gathered during fieldwork by the authors over the past 15 years and include types of animals that until now have been very poorly known, if at all. The fossils range in age between 25 and 16 million years old and provide evidence for the first appearance and subsequent radiation of modern herbivores such as giraffes and bovids (African antelope, cows, and sheep).
