Elizabeth Gomani attended Chancellor College in Zomba, Malawi, where she majored in Earth sciences and chemistry. She joined the Malawi Department of Antiquities-Southern Methodist University Dinosaur Project in 1989. She received her MS and Ph.D. degrees from SMU in Dallas, returning to her country in 1999 to become Director of the Malawi Department of Antiquities. Her masters thesis focused on the small burrowing crocodylian, Malawisuchus. After her return, she continued her work on the dinosaurs of northern Malawi with National Geographic Society support. Since 2003 she has been Acting Director of Culture in the Ministry of Youth, Sports, and Culture, where she is responsible for the Antiquities Department, the Museums of Malawi, and several other institutions.
