I
grew up in Omaha, Nebraska, with aspirations of being an all-American collegiate
linebacker for the Nebraska Cornhuskers. That didn’t work out, so I got my B.S.
in Geology at the University of Nebraska, Lincoln. After completing my M.S. and
Ph.D. degrees at the University of California, Davis, I took a post-doctoral
research position at Southern Methodist University in 2002. The post-doctoral
experience went very well. I am now an assistant professor in the Department of
Geological Sciences at Southern Methodist University.
My research interests primarily focus on
paleoenvironmental reconstruction from lithostratigraphic and chemostratigraphic
records of terrestrial rocks. I am especially interested in the morphology and
chemistry of soil formation in both modern and ancient settings. When I am not
working, I like gardening and hanging out with my best friend and wife,
Meredith.
