Fu Mingkai is the Chinese name of Mikael Fortelius, given by his friends and colleagues at the IVPP in Beijing. He trained (mostly) at the University of Helsinki, Finland, where he is currently Professor of Evolutionary Palaeontology in the Department of Geology. His interests include everything that concerns fossil mammals, especially their teeth, including evo-devo, palaeoenvironment reconstruction, and the deep time evolutionary dynamics of mammal communities. He is the coordinator of the NOW database of fossil mammals and has been involved in collaborative fieldwork in China since 1997.
