I want to thank C. Badgley for inviting me to contribute to this issue. While this contribution is not directly related to the work of Will Downs, given Will’s Herculean efforts on behalf of Siwalik paleontology over more than two decades, as well as his contributions to the excavations at Siwalik locality Y311 which I directed, I consider anything concerning the Siwaliks to be broadly related to Will’s interests. He was a pleasure to have as a colleague and I think he would have enjoyed the saga recounted here.
