Nancy
Buening is a lecturer in the Geology Department of California State University
Sacramento. She received her B.S from Sonoma State University in California and
her M.S. and Ph.D. from the University of California at Davis. Her research
interests are in brachiopods as tools for climate reconstruction and in the
process of biomineralization. Her research has taken her to New Zealand where
fossil brachiopods are abundant and well preserved. Their shells were ideal for
isotopic analysis and reconstruction of ancient climates. During a post-doc at
UCD, Nancy examined brachiopod shells with TEM and conferred with Dr. Rudy Wenk
at UC Berkeley. In addition to teaching, Nancy is a paleontological consultant
with Jones & Stokes in Sacramento.
