Christian Meyer is director of the Natural History Museum Basel and lecturer and leader of the paleontology research group at the Earth Sciences departement of the University of Basel.

His research interests are in the area of Mesozoic marginal marine and terrestrial ecosystems. His first interest in paleontology was the paleocology and taphonomy of echinoderms deposits. In the last decade he focused his research on the distribution and taxonomy of dinosaur tracks from Europe, the United States, Portugal, and Switzerland. Meyer maintains an active field program in vertebrate ichnology, including expeditions to Usbekistan, Turkmenistan, Bolivia, Argentina, Morocco and Mexico.
