Alan
Shabel received his BA in Biology at Dartmouth College (1993), where he
developed an interest in the dynamics of whole ecosystems, particularly in the
tropics. After a year in the field studying the ecology of East African
vertebrates, Alan shifted his attention to skeletal morphology and the fossil
record, and he participated in paleontological field work in Ethiopia, Spain,
and the United Arab Emirates. Now Alan is in the doctoral program at the
University of California, Berkeley, where he uses comparative anatomy,
geochemistry, and dental microwear to study the ecology and evolution of Old
World mammals.
