Vladimir
I. Davydov is a Research Professor at the Permian Research Institute, Department
of Geosciences, Boise State University. After graduation from Tadzhik State
University he spent several years mapping the Pamirs and Tian-Shan, Central
Asia. In his middle career Vladimir worked at the All-Russian Geological
Research Institute (St. Petersburg, Russia), where he was responsible for the
Upper Paleozoic stratigraphy and fusulinid biostratigraphy in various regions of
the former Soviet Union. His scientific background also includes research interests
in magnetostratigraphy, biogeochemistry, paleoclimatology, U/Pb radiometric
geochemistry and shttp://www.Paleostrat.orgequence stratigraphy. Vladimir is very active in quantitative
multidimensional correlation techniques and reconciliation of numeric and
evolutionary datasets for refined chronostratigraphy. His current project deals
with development of a suite of Web-based tools (www.Paleostrat.org) that will
facilitate the international debate for establishment of the Pennsylvanian and
Early Permian stage boundary definitions, and that will serve as a permanent
resource for the data utilized for these definitions as a database prototype for
sedimentary, paleontologic and stratigraphic data that reflects the specific
needs of stratotype, GSSPs definition and Integrated (Standard) Geologic Time
Scale.
