Jere H. Lipps is Professor in the Department of
Integrative Biology and Curator in the Museum of Paleontology at the University
of California, Berkeley. A past president of the Paleontological Society and
the Cushman Foundation for Foraminiferal Research, Inc, and the 1993 awardee for
the Darwin Award and the 2006 Joseph A. Cushman awardee for excellence in
foraminiferal research, his interests run from the popularization of
paleontology and scientific literacy for a scientifically-illiterate world to
the biology and paleobiology of foraminifera and metazoans, and recently to the
