Matthijs Freudenthal is a retired curator of fossil vertebrates of the National Museum of Natural History, Leiden, the Netherlands. he has dedicated almost fifty years to the study of fossil rodents, especially Cricetidae and Gliridae, from Oligocene and Miocene deposits. His main work area are the continental basins of Spain.
