Lionel Cavin is curator of the geology and palaeontology department in the natural history museum of Geneva. His research interests are Mesozoic fishes. He is interested in osteology, phylogeny, palaeoebiogeography and evolutionary trends in bony fishes. He is involved in a Thai-French collaboration in Thailand, where he conducts excavations on Cretaceous vertebrate sites.
