John's research focuses on modern and fossil South American
fishes, and global diversity and diversification of catfishes. He is a
Co-Principal Investigator on the NSF Planetary Biodiversity Inventory: All
Catfish Species Inventory. With previous funding from the National Science
Foundation he has conducted ichthyological expeditions to explore the deep river
channels of the Amazon River in Brazil and the Orinoco River in Venezuela. With
Kyle Luckenbill, John is developing the online digital atlas of catfish
morphology, CATFISH
