Such contorted beds are traceable for 20-30 m laterally in the individual outcrops, which occur in the same stratigraphic horizon. The structures show strong, irregular undulations and swirled bedding in the form of intraformational folds, in which the layers thicken and thin irregularly. Such features are interpreted as evidence of lateral flowage because of a sudden increase in the intensity of the hydrostatic pressure of pore waters.
