Antoine Bercovici is a paleobotanist and sedimentologist
currently finishing his PhD at the University of Rennes 1 (France). His main
interest lies in the study of ecosystems responses associated to mass extinction
events. His ongoing research focuses on the study of end-Permian environments
and the relationship between continental sedimentation, plant cover and
topography to reconstruct the evolution of environments and climate before the
mass extinction event. Additionally, he has done extensive work on the
Cretaceous/Tertiary Boundary in the Northern Great Plains (USA), and is
interested in evaluating the response of the local ecosystem (including both
continental environments and the biosphere) to this event. This work led to
propose a more acurate way of determining the palynologically defined boundary
by including palaeoenvironment and taphonomical data to the fossil record.
