Jean-Loup Guyot is a Researcher at IRD (French Institute of Research for the Development), specialist on the Amazon basin hydrology. He has published much regarding hydrology and sediment transport by Andean rivers (Bolivia, Peru and Ecuador) of the Amazon basin. He is the founder of the HYBAM program (Hydrology and Geochemistry of the Amazon Basin) and the Environmental Research Observatory (ORE) HYBAM (Geodynamical, hydrological and biogeochemical control of erosion/alteration and material transport in the Amazon basin) which has operated since 2003 in France, Brazil, Bolivia, Peru, Ecuador and Colombia. Since 2008 he is the IRD Delegate for Brazil and Paraguay. He is also a caver of the GSBM (Groupe Speleo Bagnols Marcoule, France), and has explored and mapped the main caves of Peru and Bolivia and he is involved now in paleoclimate studies using speleothems from the Andean countries of the Amazon basin.
