Beth Townsend is an Assistant Professor in Anatomy at the Arizona College of Osteopathic Medicine at Midwestern University. She studies the paleoecology of Tertiary mammals from both North and South America. Her recent work includes dietary reconstruction of extinct endemic ungulates and rodents of South America using enamel microwear techniques and habitat reconstruction of North American middle Eocene mammal localities using ecological diversity analysis. She has an active field project collecting fossil mammals in northeastern Utah and has a growing research program studying the dietary habits of notoungulates and caviomorph rodents.
