Wolfgang Kiessling is Associate Professor of Paleontology at Humboldt University. He received his diploma and doctoral degree at the University of Erlangen and was a research associate at the University of Erlangen, Humboldt University, and the University of Chicago. He is interested in large-scale analyses of the fossil record, especially of reef organisms. His research combines field work and analysis of large databases. Three major questions driving his research are: (1) What controls the stability of complex ecosystems on long temporal scales; (2) what is the role of global change on biodiversity dynamics and ecological changes in reefs; and (3) what are the causes and evolutionary consequences of mass extinctions? |
