USA. Susannah Porter grew up in Seattle, Washington, but
traveled widely as a child because her father, Stephen Porter, was a field
geologist. She received her bachelor's degree in mathematics from Yale in 1995,
and her Ph.D. in biology from Harvard in 2002, where she studied with Andrew
Knoll. She is currently an associate professor in the Earth Science department
at the University of California at Santa Barbara. Her research interests include
the fossil record of early eukaryotes, the influence of seawater chemistry on
biomineralization, and the record of early Cambrian skeletal animals. |
