Heinz Hilbrecht was born in 1958 in Berlin
(Germany). After studies of Geology at the Free University of Berlin, he
received a M.Sc. (Diplom) in 1986. After employment at the Free University
Berlin he moved to the ETH Zurich in 1987, first as a visiting scientist
(Ph.D. from the Free University in 1990), and employed by ETH since 1989.
While generally interested in Cretaceous Inoceramidae he focuses on
planktic foraminifera in the late Cretaceous and the Neogene. Main
research interests include bio- and carbon isotope stratigraphy in the
late Cretaceous, ecology and evolution of past and living planktic
foraminifera, and applications of image processing and robotics to
morphometric research. Heinz is unemployed since Jan. 1, 2000 and works as
a book author and freelance writer for various journals and newspapers.
