"If there is anything good I can say about blowing my life working for the USGS, it is that you are mixed with people working with related disciplines and can learn what is up about things you don't know about easily, by just walking down the hall. Like diatoms, radiometric dates, plants and pollen, the Yellowstone hot spot, ostracodes, the temperature of permafrost, mollusks, paleomagnetic measurement, and so on. It gives you a broader outlook."
