New representative of the family Panorpodidae (Insecta, Mecoptera) from Eocene Baltic Amber with a key to fossil species of genus Panorpodes
Plain Language Abstract
A new fossil short-faced scorpionfly species – Panorpodes gedanensis sp. nov. is described from Eocene Baltic amber. It is the fourth fossil species of this genus, which has eight extant species. A key to fossil representatives of the genus Panorpodes based on forewing characters is presented. The past distribution and diversity of wing pattering emphasises the relictual status of extant Panorpodidae.
