Peter D. Roopnarine
Peter Roopnarine studied biology at Mount Allison University in New Brunswick, Canada, where he developed an interest in marine systems and ecology. He received a B.Sc. in 1984, and then his M.S. in Ocean Sciences at Nova Univeristy Oceanographic Center in 1988. Graduate work on molluscs lead to a developing interest in paleontology, so he went on to receive a Ph.D. in Geology from the University of California at Davis in 1994. His dissertation research focused on the evolution and systematics of venerid bivalves during the Neogene of tropical America. After Davis, he held an Assistant Professorship in Biology at Southeast Missouri State University for three years, but then moved to Tucson to work with Karl Fless at the University of Arizona. His research interests include bivalve systematics and ecology, paleoecological reconstruction using geochemical techniques, and the quantitative interpretation of morphological patterns in the fossil record.Peter Roopnarine recently moved to San Francisco, where he is Assistant Curator of Invertebrate Paleontology at the California Academy of Sciences. Amy Beussink
Amy Beussink received a Bachelor of Science degree with a double major in Biology (ecology emphasis) and Geosciences from Southeast Missouri State University, Cape Girardeau, MO in 1997.She is currently working on a Master of Science degree in Watershed Management at the School of Renewable Natural Resources (SRNR), The University of Arizona in Tucson. Here curricular program emphasizes training in the use of GIS and remote sensing for natural resources management. The working title for her thesis is "Developing an ARC/INFO GIS database and support tools for natural resources management at Concord Naval Base, California".She is also working as a Research Assistant in the Advanced Resource Technology Laboratory in SRNR as a GIS technician.
