Gordon Curry is a Reader in the Division of Earth Sciences in the University of Glasgow. After graduating with a Ph.D. on Recent brachiopods carried out jointly in the Department of Palaeontology, Natural History Museum, London, and the Imperial College London, he moved to the University of Glasgow to work as a research assistant to Sir Alwyn Williams. After five years research on Ordovician faunas from the Tourmakeady area of West Ireland, the Isle of Skye, and the Highland Border Complex in Scotland, he obtained a Royal Society Research Fellowship to work on molecular palaeontology, before joining the staff in Glasgow in 1992. He has worked on amino acids and DNA in fossil and sub-fossil shells and bone, and has research interests in stable isotopes from shells as palaeo-environmental indicators. His current research includes the development of new software for ancient biodiversity research, and an isotopic study of Quaternary land-snails from Tenerife.
