Annalisa Berta completed her undergraduate degree at the University of Washington and she received Ph.D. in Paleontology at the University of California, Berkeley. She is Emerita Professor of Biology in the Department of Biology at San Diego State University, San Diego, California. She is an evolutionary biologist who for the last 40 years has been studying the anatomy, evolution and systematics of various fossil and living marine mammals, especially pinnipeds and whales.

Agnese Lanzetti earned BS and MS degrees in Geology from the University of Pisa, Italy and a PhD from the SDSU/UCR Joint Doctoral program in Evolutionary Biology. Her research interests include skull growth and prenatal development in mysticete (baleen) whales.
