Matthew Downen studies fossil spiders and fossil preservation. They completed a BS (Hons) in geology from Western Kentucky University in 2011. In 2014, they received a MS and in 2020, a PhD in the Department of Geology at the University of Kansas focusing on fossil spider taxonomy and the taphonomy of spider assemblages preserved in lacustrine deposits.

Paul Selden studies all aspects of fossil arthropods, particularly Chelicerata and especially spiders. He completed his BSc (Hons) in Geology and Zoology at the University of Manchester, UK in 1975, and a PhD at Darwin College, University of Cambridge, UK in 1978. He taught and researched at Goldsmiths’ College, University of London, for a couple of years before moving to the University of Manchester where he worked until 2005, when he became formally associated with the Natural History Museum, London. In 2007, be became Director of the Paleontological Institute and Distinguished Professor in the Department of Geology, University of Kansas, until his retirement in 2020.
