Hannes Löser was a computer and database programmer before he received a Diplôme de Recherches Doctorales (Diplôme de 3ème cycle) from the Nancy University (France) and a PhD from the University of Erlangen/Nürnberg (Germany), both in Geology/Palaeontology. In 1998 and 1999 Hannes registered fossil collections in Dresden and Leipzig (Germany), from late 1999 to early 2000 he was visiting professor at the Tohoku University in Sendai. In 2001 he started a postdoc at the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México, where he took a position as Researcher/Lecturer from 2003 on. His research is mainly focused on the evolution and taxonomy of post-paleozoic corals. Since 1995 Hannes develops and maintains the Palaeontological Database System PaleoTax.

Luis M. Nieto is Associate Professor in the Department of Geology at the Universidad de Jaén since 1999, teaching General and Applied Geology, Stratigraphy and Geological Hazards in Biology, Environmental Sciences and Topography Engineering Degrees. Luis teaches a postgraduate course on Geological Heritage and Geodiversity. He holds a baccalaureate degree (1988) and PhD in Stratigraphy (1996) from the Universidad de Granada. His research is focused on stratigraphy, sedimentology and geochemistry of the Jurassic and Cretaceous of the Betic External Zones (South Spain) in order to reconstruct the palaeogeography of the South Iberian Palaeomargin.

José Manuel Castro received a PhD from the University of Granada and is Associate Professor of Stratigraphy in the Geology Department of the University of Jaén (UJA; Spain). His research is mainly focused on the marine sedimentation of the Lower Cretaceous of the Betic External Zones. He investigates the stratigraphy and sedimentology of carbonate platforms, the relationship between pelagic and platform settings, and tectonic-sedimentation connections. In recent years he employs Sedimentary Geochemistry (stable isotopes, biomarkers and trace elements) as a stratigraphic and sedimentological tool for environmental characterisation and interpretation of the sedimentary record, as well as stratigraphic correlation and paleoclimatology.

Matías Reolid received his PhD in Geology from the University of Granada (2003) and worked afterwards at the University of Oslo, University of Lyon, and the University Complutense Madrid. Matías is interested in palaeoecology, ecostratigraphy and taphonomy of Jurassic and Cretaceous fossil assemblages and the interpretation of environmental conditions as well as climatic and sea-level changes in the geological record. He developed his studies in the Betic Cordillera, the Lusitanian Basin, the French Jura, the Umbria Marche Basin (Italy), the Inner Moray Firth Basin (Scotland), Svalbard (Norway), North Siberia, the Middle Atlas of Morocco, the Saharan Atlas of Algeria, Northeast Iran, and the Kutch Basin of India.
