John Foster has researched his paleontological first-love, the Cambrian, for more than 30 years. His work has historically focused on the olenellid trilobites of the lower Cambrian and the corynexochid trilobites of the Glossopleura Zone of North America. He is currently also involved in team projects dedicated to better understanding the biostratigraphy of the Lodore, Tintic, Ophir, and Spence formations of northern Utah, as well as the Bright Angel and Muav formations of Grand Canyon. All of this work over the years has been in parallel with a career dedicated to the vertebrate paleoecology and taphonomy of the Upper Jurassic of North America. He is author of Cambrian Ocean World: Ancient Sea Life of North America (2014) and Jurassic West: The Dinosaurs of the Morrison Formation and Their World (2007, 2020) (both Indiana University Press).
