María Pilar studied Geology (B.Sc) and Geology: Techniques and Applications (M.Sc) at the University of Zaragoza from 2016 to 2021. Since 2021 she is working in her PhD thesis about the study of Quaternary small mammals, focussing on the subfamily Arvicolinae, with the integration of different methodologies such as geometric morphometrics and ancient DNA.

Jaime Lira Garrido is a researcher interested in the fields of evolutionary biology, population genomics, domestication and ancient DNA. Jaime obtained his University Degree in Biology at the Complutense University of Madrid (UCM) in Spain. In 2018 he obtained his PhD also at UCM. In his PhD project, he studied horse domestication in the Iberian Peninsula analysing ancient DNA.

Gloria studied Geology at the University of Zaragoza and presented her doctorate on small mammals from the Tertiary basins in Spain. Subsequently, focusing on Quaternary research on small vertebrates, she was awarded the Prince of Asturias Award in 1997, together with her team from the Atapuerca research project. She is currently Vice-Rector for Knowledge Transfer and Innovation at the University of Zaragoza.

Joan Pons is a Senior Scientist at the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC) in the Department of Animal and Microbial Biodiversity at the Mediterranean Institute for Advanced Studies (IMEDEA, CSIC-UIB) in Esporles, Balearic Islands. After earning his PhD in Biology (Genetics) in 1999 from the University of the Balearic Islands under the supervision of Drs. Eduard Petitpierre and Carlos Juan, he received a postdoctoral fellowship at the Evolab of the University of California, Berkeley (2000-2001) with Dr. Rosemary Gillespie. Subsequently, between 2001 and 2005, he held a postdoctoral position at Dr. Alfried Vogler's Molecular Systematics Lab at the Natural History Museum and Imperial College of London (UK). Upon returning to Spain, he taught university courses in Zoology at Pompeu Fabra University (2005-2006) and was eventually awarded a Ramón y Cajal contract (2006-2009), ranking 3rd in the 2005 call, until securing a permanent position at CSIC as a Senior Scientist in 2009.

Pere Bover is a zoologist, with research interests in extinction, paleoecology, morphology, and paleogenomics of fossil vertebrates, especially species evolving under insular conditions. He is currently a senior researcher of the Aragonese Foundation for Research and Development (ARAID) at the Instituto Universitario de Investigación en Ciencias Ambientales (IUCA) from the University of Zaragoza and head of the Paleogenomics Laboratory of IUCA.
