Tim Wolterbeek obtained a BSc, MSc and PhD in geology from Utrecht University. He currently works as senior researcher at Shell Global Solutions International B.V. Professionally, Tim studies how reactive transport and chemical-mechanically coupled mineralization processes can be harnessed to create or eliminate pathways for fluid flow in subsurface rock formations and wellbore systems. Bordering on his professional pursuits, Tim is interested in the role of mineralisation processes in fossilisation. He further has an avocational interest in palaeobotany, specifically the Palaeozoic floras of Western Europe.

Anthonie Hellemond is a Belgian palaeontologist and chairman of the Palaeontologica Belgica research organisation. His interests are aimed towards the valorisation of Belgian palaeontology and regional geology. He is a passionate advocate for citizen- and open science and is currently working on ethics within geosciences. Furthermore, he also specialises in the curation, conservation and valorisation of (historical) geological collections. As member of the lithotectonic workgroup of the Belgian National Commission on Stratigraphy, he is working on the redefinition of all major Belgian geological entities. Within palaeontology, his interest lies within Palaeozoic ecosystems and geochemical analysis, especially the Devonian.

Kevin Nolis became fascinated by palaeontology at a young age. His passion deepened as a result of studying Cretaceous deposits in the region around Liège and Limburg. As former secretary of the Belgian Paleontological Society and board member of the Belgian Council for Earth Sciences, he has gained a lot of field experience in Belgium and abroad. Kevin is committed to the preservation and appreciation of Belgium’s geo-scientific heritage, and old (private) collections and written source materials.

author svuSven Van Uytfanghe. Palaeontologica Belgica, Oostvaartdijk 61, B-1850 Grimbergen, Belgium. thewaysofwyrd@gmail.com

Sven Van Uytfanghe is a passionate citizen scientist, studying fossil lycopods from the Carboniferous period for many years. In recent years, he explored the evolutionary origins of these large floral groups from the coal forests. This resulted in a study of the first forests, found in the Upper Devonian of the Belgian Condroz. On a regular basis he gives (inter)national lectures and contributes to various publications.
