 Article number: 28.1.E1

April 2025

Since its founding in 1998, Palaeontologia Electronica (PE) has stood at the forefront of open-access publishing in paleontology. As the first fully online journal in the field, we have proudly offered authors a cost-free publishing platform and provided readers worldwide with unrestricted access to peer-reviewed science.

You know what PE is

Today, more than 25 years later, PE continues to grow, thanks to the dedication of our editorial team, reviewers, and the generous support of our readers and sponsors. We are delighted that PE has recently been ranked among the top ten most influential paleontological journals on Google Scholar and recognized by Thomson Reuters as a leading publication in the discipline. These achievements are a testament to the collaborative spirit of the paleontological community.

But high-quality, open-access publishing is not without its costs.

Why does it cost money?

Although all editorial work is done on a volunteer basis, maintaining the infrastructure of a professional journal (secure digital archiving, server hosting, layout production, DOI registration, and copyediting) requires ongoing financial support. These essential services are what allow us to remain free to authors and accessible to all readers, regardless of institutional affiliation or geographic location.

This is why we are launching our annual donation drive.

You are part of PE

If PE has helped you share your research, discover new ideas, teach your students, or stay connected with the broader paleontological community, we invite you to consider making a donation. Your support, whether as an individual or on behalf of an institution or society, makes a direct and meaningful impact.

Together, we can ensure that Palaeontologia Electronica remains open, accessible, and thriving for decades to come.
