Dr. Igor Yakovlevich Grichanov is a Russian entomologist and ecologist. He graduated from the Voronezh State University in 1980 and received his PhD in biology from the All-Russian Institute of Plant Protection in 1984. Here he became the Head of the Laboratory of Phytosanitary Diagnostics and Forecasts in 1990, and the Doctor of Science in Biology in 2006. He has authored nearly 700 scientific manuals, handbooks, monographs, papers and small notes in various fields of biology. As a taxonomist, Grichanov has described 33 (including six fossil) new genera and about 550 new species of long-legged flies.
