First fossil of Cylindrostethinae (Heteroptera: Gerromorpha: Gerridae) in the Paleocene of Menat, France
Plain Language Abstract
Even if they are rather frequent in the Cenozoic, the gerrids are not well known in the Mesozoic and the Paleocene. Here we describe the second oldest representative of this family of water bugs and the first fossil record of the small modern subfamily Cylindrostethinae. This group is living under warm environments, confirming similar paleoclimate for the ancient lake of Menat (Centre of France).
